Hello generations π
Hi dear reader of all generations including gen x, gen y, gen z etc π. Let's find out the different types of generations and their vibes. What made them unique and what's their behaviour and why they all given their names as such.
A generation is a defined as a group of people belongs to a particular time period having common behaviour influenced by the prevailing trends of that time period. It is considered as a time interval of 15 to 20 years for one particular generation. There is a slight merging of trends and behaviour while shifting from one generation to the very next. So those who born at the very end of one generation or in the beginning of the next has got traits from both the generation. Every generation has it's own charm and flaws which make them unique. The generations may vary from each other in their dressing styles, baby names, special widespread quotes, food and all other lifestyles. Their educational levels are also varied. There seems a gradual change in almost every field of life. These differences results in the so called generation gap where the prior generation finds it difficult to convince their younger generation and the younger generation finds it difficult to make understand their elder genaration π€.
We basically follow the western categorisation though every region (continent/country) has it's own influence on their categorisation.
Here the categorisation which I am going to discuss first is the western one.
Greatest Generation (GI Generation) : Born roughly between 1901–1927
The GI Greatest generation faced a depression period due to world war ll and found difficulties in raising family.
The Silent Generation : Born roughly between 1928-1945
The silent generation got it's name from the way they behaved . They remained silent through the MacCarthy era when the fear of Communism swept the country.kids were expected to earn their way through life using a strong work ethic.
Baby Boomers: Born roughly between 1946 - 1964.
The baby boomers are named for the population "boom" that occurred after World War II.Boomer parents notably redefined parenting by being the first generation to look at their kids' perspective of growing up, and they started the concept of having family meetings.
Generation X ( Xennials ): Born roughly between 1965 -1980.
The generation X (Xennials) is defined as the one following the Baby Boomers and preceding the Millennials. Some sources define a microgeneration called Xennials for those born between roughly 1977 and 1983. Xennials are described as having an analog childhood and a digital young adulthood, sharing characteristics of both Generation X and Millennials.
Millennials (Gen Y): Born roughly between 1981- 1996.
While Boomers may accuse Millennials of being self-centered and impatient due to their excessive use of technology, this generation has proven to be incredibly community-oriented and environmentally conscious, which are traits being picked up by their children.
When it comes to parenting, millennials are more likely than prior generations to encourage their children to live as their authentic selves, and they're leading the movement in helping gender non-conforming kids be happy with who they are.
Generation Z( Gen Z ) : Born roughly between 1997 -2010.
Generation Z (iGen) kids are the first to be born into a world where they know nothing besides constant connection to one another, albeit through phones, screens, and tablets. However, like millennials before them, Gen Z'ers are often environmentally conscious, inclusive and have acceptance for others and extremely politically aware despite many of them not yet being of voting age ππ.
Generation Z (the generation after Millennials) only knows a world that is hyper-connected where by the tap of a smartphone anything can be delivered at your doorstep in less than an hour. Now a days that time is further decreased to 10 minutes as we all know services provided by various online apps like Swiggy, Zomato, Instamart, Blinkit etc. To Generation Z, a phone will be broken if they cannot see the other person on the other end. It’s a brave new world that Generation Z is growing up in.
To best way to understand how Generation Z is interacting with this new world spend some time with them and notice the slangs and quotes they often use like :
“Whenever I'm bored, I can always find something to do on my phone.”
“I can’t live without my laptop, because I’m enrolled in a virtual school and I have to use it.”
“My goals are to travel and become a founder of an organization to help people.”
“For me being ‘cool’ is being myself and having friends who like me for who I am.”
“I follow the news because I want to be aware of the world.”
“YouTube is an ocean of entertainment. No other app can provide as much entertainment as YouTube.”
I picked these quotes from an article by Ryan Jenkins .
I find these young minds very smart and practical in all sense. They never entertain unnecessary things around them. For them spending time on screen is not at all a wastage of time instead they learn every bit of life skills from the very vast ocean of the Internet π.
Generation Alpha : Born between 2010-2024.
Kids born between 2010 and 2024 are part of Generation Alpha. They're the first generation of kids who will never know a time when social media didn't exist, and they're far more tech-savvy than any previous generation, which is a powerful skill set that can change humanity in a myriad of positive ways. On the flip side, this reliance on technology can lead to reduced attention spans and fewer in-person connections.
Generation Beta : Born between 2025–2039
Kids born in 2025 and beyond are part of Generation Beta, though it's too soon to know anything about them yet. They'll likely be tech-savvy and socially conscious, similar to Generation Alpha, and they might prioritize adaptability, individuality, and sustainability. Unlike past generations, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital connectivity will likely be woven into their daily lives.Like the generations that came before them, every passing year will shape the cultural perception of who they are.
Let's discuss the interest of music among these above mentioned generations π
Generational music eras :
Baby Boomers: Music of the 1960s and 1970s, including rock and roll, soul, and folk
Generation X: Music of the 1980s and early 1990s, including new wave, hip hop, and alternative rock. MTV's influence was significant
Millennials: Music of the late 1990s and 2000s, driven by pop, hip hop, and rock, with the emergence of digital music and the internet shaping consumption
Generation Z: Music from the mid-2010s to the present, characterized by the blending of genres, especially electronic music, and influenced by streaming services and social media like TikTok
