Hola ๐Monochrome November ⚪⚫
Hi my dear reader ๐ Hope you are doing well and enjoying this transition in weather during this ongoing month of November.
In this world of colours there exists a colour called MONOCHROME.
The Greek meaning of "monochrome" comes from the words "monos" meaning "one" or "single,"and"chroma"meaning "color". The term literally means "of a single color" and was originally used in art to describe work made in a single hue.
Things that are monochrome have different tones or shades of only one color basically black and white and shades of grey. It is considered as an artistic way to express anything.
For the last few days wherever I browsed I am seeing monochromatic pics of people, objects, art pieces etc. Everywhere I can see this effect. One of my fb friends' cover page pic really struck deep into me as I found it very unique. There was a white flower with a whole black background. I found it very catchy, very artistic, a masterpiece along with a tag line "MONOCHROME IS A COLOUR". That line gave the pic a more deep meaning. I must say that my friend is very creative and I was so inspired by this photograph that I cannot resist myself from putting my monochrome profile pic ๐๐.
What I feel that November is a month where we slowly transit from a colourfull festive season to subdued hues of dark shades of winters.
There is a very noticeable effect of season on our choices of colours in our day to day life. As you can see during the month of October there we celebrate festivals in a row and the choice of our dresses are very colourful. But as we step into the month of November with a slight cold weather the choice of colours is inclined more towards darker shades. I noticed this changing effect on my choice of topics too. Even my blogs from last month of October are full of colours where I wrote about rainbows and artists, colours etc and now I am welcoming November with this monochromatic effect.
Creative Challenges: Many artists, photographers, and fashion enthusiasts informally designate November as "Monochrome Month" or "Monochrome November" as a creative challenge or theme. Participants might challenge themselves to create art using only one color and its shades, take only black and white photos, or dress in monochromatic outfits for as many days as possible.
MONOCHROMATIC COLOUR SCHEME
Now if we try to have a technical understanding about the monochrome colour scheme what I learnt from Wikipedia is that a monochromatic color scheme comprises (tones, tints and shades) of a single hue. Tints are achieved by adding white, thereby increasing lightness; Shades are achieved by adding black, thereby decreasing lightness; Tones are achieved by adding gray, thereby decreasing colourlfulness.
Monochromatic color schemes provide opportunities in art and visual communications design as they allow for a greater range of contrasting tones that can be used to attract attention, create focus and gives aesthetic meaning.
MONOCHROMATIC PHOTOGRAPHY
Monochromatic photography is very much in practice by the photographers to create a mood by giving different feelings using warm and cool tones like to give a historical feel. It is used to emphasize more on the main subject's texture, composition etc by removing colour and that too without being distracted by other colours. The main last reason to use monochromatic effects is to give the pic an artistic effect which gives a more dramatic and aesthetic look.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO AND A MONOCHROME PHOTO
When we talk about monochrome photography, we are actually talking about all kinds of photographs which are composed of different tints and shades of a single colour. On the other hand, when we refer to black and white photography, we are only talking about photos that have no colours in them, just different shades of black and white.
So, to make things easier for you : a Black and white photo is a monochrome photo, while a monochrome photo is not always black and white. This is the main difference between monochrome and black and white photography.
Maybe now you too would have immersed into this monochrome effect and start noticing this around you. This November those who really feel artistic would definitely go monochrome in their colour choice. Try some, you will feel different ๐
